Our Curriculum
CARE Specialised Remedial School follows the Independent Schools of South Africa four-term calendar and aligns with the DCAPS curriculum.
Grades R to 3. We offer Grade R through to Grade 3. Grade R is also known as Grade 0.
A plan for every learner. Each learner has an Individual Education Plan, or IEP. We build it around your child’s needs, strengths and goals and we review it as your child grows.
Subjects. Our learners cover literacy, numeracy, life skills, Afrikaans and physical education. *Other languages may be offered subject to interest.
Swimming. Swimming is part of our curriculum, not an optional extra.
Our curriculum is adapted to:
- Bridge foundational gaps
- Provide disability adjustments
- Engage learners through multi-sensory teaching
- Build academic stamina and independence
Learning is practical, structured, and achievable.
Our goal is that when learners leave the Foundation Phase, they do so with strengthened core skills and readiness for continued education.
There is a focus on community-based learning and this increases as students’ progress through their schooling. Our aim for students is that when they leave school that they take their rightful place as productive and valued members of their community. Key to this goal is a strong focus on Communication, Literacy, Numeracy, Social and Emotional Learning and independence skills.
We offer a social learning model. Students learn within a group, learning from and with one another and from and with staff. We also provide opportunities for individual teaching and learning in the classroom with generous staffing ratios.
We are committed to:
- Delivering remedial curricula in ways that are accessible, engaging and meaningful.
- Embedding therapeutic approaches that integrate occupational therapy, speech therapy and sensory regulation strategies into daily learning.
- Building strong partnerships with families and caregivers to ensure continuity and support across environments.
- Encouraging confidence, resilience and independence in each learner by celebrating progress in all its forms.
Through innovation, compassion and inclusivity, we strive to give every learner the opportunity to succeed in education and life, no matter how unique their path may be.
