At CARE Specialised Remedial School, we provide a structured, therapeutic learning environment for Foundation Phase learners who require more support than a mainstream classroom can offer.
We are a remedial school, not a special needs facility. Our learners work toward meeting grade-level expectations within a supportive, adapted environment.
We integrate academic remediation with therapeutic principles so that learners can build strong foundations in literacy, numeracy, communication, regulation and independence.
Our focus is not simply catching up.
Our focus is building competence, confidence and long term learning capacity.
Beyond the Classroom
Learning does not stop at the classroom door. Our extramurals give every learner a chance to explore, create and grow.
Extramurals include creative arts, drama, music, coding, robotics and non-competitive sport.
Aftercare. We offer aftercare with structured homework support.
Who we support
CARE Specialised Remedial School is designed for learners whose barriers to learning are neurological in nature.
Grade 0 – the year they turn 6
Grade 1 – the year they turn 7
Grade 2 – the year they turn 8
Grade 3 – the year they turn 9
One repeat within the Foundation Phase may be supported, based on professional recommendation and in the best interest of the learner.
We support children who experience barriers such as:
- Dyslexia and reading difficulties
- Dyscalculia and numeracy challenges
- ADHD and attention regulation difficulties
- Processing delays
- Expressive and receptive language delays
- Anxiety impacting learning
- Sensory processing challenges
- Autism
- Gaps in foundational knowledge
Learners must be able to work toward grade-level outcomes by the end of each academic year. If a learner’s needs exceed what can reasonably be supported within a remedial environment, we work collaboratively with families to explore appropriate alternatives within the CARE network.
Therapy built in
Therapy is not a bolt-on at C.A.R.E. It is woven into every school day, in-house and on-site.
Our therapies include:
- Occupational therapy
- Speech therapy
- Physiotherapy
- Remedial therapy
- Music therapy
- Drama therapy
- Art therapy
What makes us different?
Small classes. Maximum 10 to 12 learners per class. Every learner is seen, heard and supported.
Integrated therapy. Occupational therapy, speech therapy and emotional support are built into the school day. Not outsourced. Not after hours.
A multidisciplinary team. Qualified remedial teachers, occupational therapists, speech pathologists, a school psychologist, a positive behaviour support team and classroom assistants. All under one roof.
A DCAPS-aligned curriculum. Your child follows the national curriculum, adapted for how they learn. Real academics. Real outcomes.
A whole-child approach. We do not just teach the academic side. We build confidence, independence, resilience and social skills.
